Owner of the Gura Gura Fruit, or the Earthquake Fruit, Whitebeard has his name renown among the pirate seas for being the strongest pirate in the world, only second to Gol D. Roger.
He is depicted as a hardened old man, large in stature and muscular throughout his entire body despite being of old age. Whitebeard has obvious signs of being wizened throughout his many battles over the years, as evidenced by the battle scars which he bears on the front of his body, and the wisdom he demonstrates in his command of his forces.
Despite being a hardened warrior, there is nothing Whitebeard treasures more than the principle of family. This is surprising as most pirates in the world of One Piece usually have their own agenda in their quests, whether it be revenge against an enemy, the protection of loved ones, fighting for a cause or the all fulfilling discovery of the greatest treasure, One Piece. However, Whitebeard has no personal ambition even though he has the capacity to seemingly achieve anything he wants, dreaming only of providing a safe haven for those he calls his family.
Notes: Whitebeard was the main force behind the battle with the marines at Marine ford. His ability allows him to trigger earthquakes, by proxy giving him the power to call forth earth tremors, shockwaves and tsunamis. He was also a close friend of Roger’s, as evidenced by his flashbacks and his announcement, near the end of his life, that the One Piece truly does exist.
